Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass...
It's about learning to dance in the rain

My wonderful husband!

Just had to post a picture of the beautiful flowers that my husband sent me the other day. His reason behind it - just because he loves me. :) I just thought they were so pretty i just wanted to share.

It is a phenomenon!

It was quite a phenomenon the other day. Last Wednesday i was coming home from the gym and it was cold and cloudy (I don't think it had been raining when i went) but as I'm driving home it starts to rain and then it sounds like more than just rain. I soon realized that it was sleeting. Now most of you will think who cares, what is the big deal? Well for us in mid east Alabama it is quite the deal. When we got home i didn't pull in the garage because i had to get something out of the attic, well i got out and told Eric to come on but he said that he was going to just stay in the car. I guess since i was excited about it i scared him and i guess he thought it was going to hurt him. It sleeted off and on the rest of the day and we thought that was the end. Well on Saturday it called for snow again. I was getting VERY excited. I guess during the 10 months of winter we spent in Alaska really turned me on to snow. Unfortunately all we had were about 5 snowflakes and the rest was all rain. I was very disappointed and that will probably be all we see of that kind of weather this year.

Some Eric"isms"

Just some funny things that little ERic has said in the past couple of days. He asked me the other night how many nights until daddy will be home (we judge how many days until something happens by nights). I told him that it was going to be a while. He kept asking me how many nights. So i just said like 340 (who really knows how many days). He then said "That is a long time mommy. I don't want daddy to be gone that many nights!"

Saturday Eric and I were driving around running some errands and we were both pretty cranky from lack of sleep. I was on the phone talking to my sister when he kept calling my name. I told him to hold on i was on the phone. He then said, "Well get off the phone mommy!"

I know I have more but i sure can't remember what they are. I guess there is a good reason i blog - so i can remember the funny things he says and does so when ever i become a good mom and fill out the rest of his baby book i'll have some funny stuff to put in it.

news from eric

Every couple of days eric sends out an email with an update of how he is doing. I told him he needed to post the updates since he doesn't email it to everybody. So I am posting his email he sent out the other day but then he will start posting them him self.
Well I had a new experience, well sort of. We all know that I have been to Afghanistan once before and at the time we ate a lot of local afghan food. Tonight I went to the ANA side of he compound and had dinner with my ANA counterparts. It was nice to sit and eat and talk to them (through my intrepreter). I am trying to learn dari and the first sergeant is trying to learn more english. Who knew that sheep would taste so good. They eat everything with flat bread and that acts as their utencil as well. They gave me a spoon but I did not use it because I wanted to eat like them. They just put the food on platters and everyone eats from the same two platters. I plan to do this once a week if they continue asking me. Which I am sure they will. The food really is good. They think it is funny that I don't drink hot tea or smoke. So they now have soda there for me when I go see them and of course they all smoke so in turn I do to through second hand smoke. Oh well you don't want to offend them by leaving when they light up.

Thunderstorms are scary!

Tonight we have had some pretty bad weather. Starting late this afternoon the weather people have been reporting that we were going to be getting some pretty nasty weather storms sometime this evening. Little Eric had gone to bed in my bed (long story but it has to do with him peeing in his bed last night and his mother the lazy one not washing his sheets until like 6:30pm so they were not ready to be put back on the bed when it was bedtime. why i just didn't put the other set that i have on i don't know). Anyways - I told him he could go to bed in my bed and i would just move him to his bed when i had made it. About 9:30 or 10 tonight the storms started and there was loud thunder that woke Eric up. I went in there to comfort him and he said that he wanted to go to his bed (which i thought to be a little odd - don't most kids go to their parent's bed when they are scared. He is an odd fellow; must take after his father). But he told me that he was scared in my bed but wouldn't be scared in his bed. Whatever. So i put his sheets on his bed and took him there.
I couldn't sleep so I just stayed up watching TV and listening to the rain. Well about midnight the siren started going off. (Phenix City has a siren that goes off when either a tornado is spotted or one could form - I really don't know). The scaredy cat that i am called my mom to ask her her opinion on what i should do. I had my computer off already and i don't get local channels and the radio wasn't reporting anything so my mom and dad checked to see of they could figure out. She told me to get some stuff ready and just wait. Well i'm getting more nervous by the minute. My mom calls me a few minutes to tell me what they found on the internet and to see how things were. As i'm talking to her the sirens go off again. She suggest that i wake up little eric (that was my big concern in the first place - didn't want to wake him up and worry him.) So i made a nice little bed in the kitchen (really the only room that doesn't have an exterior wall) and we laid down. By now i'm shaking and just want my husband! Can you tell i don't like bad weather when I'm by myself? :) We laid on the floor for alittle bit until i knew that the bad stuff had passed by. I tell Eric that it is time to go back to bed, that the bad storm has passed us. He then tells me that it might come back and he needed to sleep on the kitchen floor. I told him that it had passed and we could go get in bed; his or mine. He told me again that he couldn't go to my bed because he was scared in my bed. He could only go in the kitchen or his room because he wasn't scared there.
I just thought that was cute. Sorry it was such a long post. I just felt the whole story needed to be told. :) Guess i should go and try to go to sleep because it is 2:30am and the storm has ended. I hate thunderstorms at night when I'm alone!

He is now in Primary!!

I can't believe that my little boy is old enough to go to Primary. This past Sunday was his first day in Sunbeams. I told him a few days before Sunday that he wouldn't be going to nursery but he would be going to a new class in Primary. Well then he started calling it Preschool and kept asking questions about Preschool. I kept reminding him that it wasn't Preschool but Primary. He would then say, "Oh yeah primary." It was really cute. I guess you just had to hear it from him. :)
He said he had a good time and really liked it. He was alittle upset that he didn't get to pick a song during singing time or check the mail. but then said that when he got to be a bigger boy then he could pick a song and check the mail. Everybody said that he did a great job and was very reverant and even participated. I'm so proud of him! I had to take these 2 pictures of him sitting in primary since Eric wasn't here to see it.

funny christmas stories

It was a great christmas (except for the fact that big eric was gone) and little eric has some funny things to say. He woke up christas morning and asked me when was christmas going to be here. I told him that christmas was today. He then said "but where is the snow?" I guess he had been listening to too many christmas songs that talk about having snow on christmas.
Since Eric's family was at our house on thanksgiving and eric not being home for christmas we had exchanged gifts with his family and then exchanged a few more before Eric left we had already had 2 christmas's before the holiday even got here. WE opened the presents and then later in the morning one of my sisters came over with her family and we opened some more presents. Christmas afternoon little Eric asked my mom when we were going to open more presents. My mom told him that we had opened all the presents and there were no more. He then asked when more people were going to come over so we could have more presents. I'm afraid now that he is going to think christmas is a month long affair.
I'm including a picture that me and little eric took Christmas morning.

what a great question!

We were driving somewhere the other day and little eric asked us where do boogers come from. I sat there and thought for a minute and thought that is a great question; something me and big eric have thought to ourselves many times. WE told him we didn't know but thought i would blog about it and ask the question to all you. I would like to know - where do you guys think boogers come from?

I sure wish they would listen!

We took little eric to the barber shop the other day. He was in desperate need of a hair cut and i just didn't feel like doing it. We were at the PX on post and they have a barber shop there so we decided to just go there. We have taken him the the barber shop on post before and been happy with the job that they have done. Well we told the lady we wanted to medium fade. When she got done i was VERY surprised because it was practically a high and tight. She asked us if the cut was good. I wanted to scream at her because she had cut ALOT of his hair off but we just said that it was shorted than what we wanted but it was going to have to be good because she had already cut the hair off. IT has been about 2 1/2 weeks since it got cut and it is now looking like what i wanted it to be. Oh well though - it is just hair it will grow back.

I became addicted

So i have gone my whole life with not having much interest in video games until this past thanksgiving. Since Eric was home for Thanksgiving all of his family came to our house. Eric's sister Catie brought her play station 2 with her and the game guitar hero. Let's just say i became ADDICTED to the game. Me and Sean (Eric's brother) were up almost every night until like 2am playing. I even had alittle guitar hero withdrawl after they left. I think i will be purchasing one in the next couple of months. Thought i would post a video of it. It is great fun!

I haven't died!

I know it has been forever since i posted anything at all; and i must say i have ALOT to blog about. Bear with me and i will get it all posted. WE have had a great thanksgiving and christmas. IT is sad though because Eric left for Afghanistan about a week before christmas. :( I guess that is the military though. Check back in the next couple of days and i will get everything posted.
