Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass...
It's about learning to dance in the rain

SFC Vancour.....finally

After waiting a year from the time that we found out Eric made the E7 list, he was finally pinned to the rank of Sergent First Class. I wish we could have been there.
I am so proud of him. I'm proud of what he does. I'm thankful for him providing for our family and doing everything he can to give me what I want. Thank you baby for who you are and what you do. I'm so proud of you!!

taking the old rank off

it's official

Eric and his Sergent Major

making sure that the rank is on :)

The Black Pearl

At the marina at Ko'Olina the Black Pearl from the movie Pirates of the Caribbean is parked there. Whenever we go the Eric loves to walk over and see the boat. Just another cool thing to see while living here in Hawaii

Could somebody help me......

figure out whose child this is because he surely can't be mine!!

Ko'Olina Resort

I have started to realize how nice Ko'Olina resort actually is! It is a resort located on the south west area of the island and they let the public use the lagoons they have there. My friend Amanda and I have started to take our kids there on Wednesday afternoon because it is early release and there is like nobody there. There is nothing more relaxing than hanging on the beach with the wind blowing and the sun shining on your face chatting with the bestest friend ever. It is starting to become one of my favorite places to go.

Here you can go snorkeling (Eric looks so grown up here)

or you can hang with your friends

that particular day a monk seal had swim into the lagoon and was sunning up on the shore.

Happy New Year!

I know I am about 4 1/2 months behind but I just wanted to wish everyone a very happy new year!! :)

Christmas 2010

Just when I thought I was all done with last year and could finally start blogging about things happening this year I realized I hadn't posted any pictures from Christmas. Santa tried not to spoil too much this year (he must have know we had to get everything back to Hawaii). Little Eric had told me earlier in December that Santa didn't get him anything that he wanted last year (what a brat!). I think Santa did a better job this year and got things that Eric wanted.

Trying to get 9 grandkids (including 2 babies) to sit for a picture.....

equals a very entertaining event. Since all the grand kids were there this year we couldn't pass up a photo op. It was quite a challenging event but it kept us entertained. Here are some of the shots that we got.

have no clue what Leah is doing

Stephen to Emily - "Hey don't you think this is lame; I'm tired of sitting here"

Stephen - "I've had enough. I'm outta here!"

This was the best one I got

I couldn't resist taking a picture of this cute boy!

and this little girl is too cute for words. Sure wish I lived closer Becca!!

Snowmagedden 2010

One of the only things that Eric was wishing for this year was snow. I kept telling him not to count on it - it hardly ever snows in Fayetteville. As the time got closer to Christmas the talk started that maybe we would get a white Christmas. Now it was to me exceptionally cold this winter (the day I arrived I think the high was like 25) so I started to think that maybe it would happen. Well we didn't get a white Christmas but we did get the day after Christmas white Christmas. We woke up on the 26th to a lot of snow on the ground and it continued all morning. Church was canceled - we had S"no"w church and the kids just played and played in it. I forgot how nice and peaceful it is to stand outside and listen to the snow fall. It was a great treat for us to be there since the only season we get here is warm.

These other 2 pictures I had to put out because I thought they were so cute.
Leah loves her Papa and would much rather go with him than anybody else; especially when he will carry  her through the snow.

I love these 2 lovely ladies right here!

Christmas Eve 2010

When we were younger we would always act out the Christmas story. When we got older (and too cool to do it) we would sit down as a family and read the story. Now that the grandkids are getting older, they get to act out the story. It is so nice to be able to carry on traditions with little Eric that I did as a kid. This year Eric was Joeseph, Jordan was Mary, Emily was the Angel, and Adam was the 3 wiseman. Enjoy!

Another tradition that I have started with little Eric is getting a new pair of pajamas every Christmas - this year he got a new pair of Lego Star Wars jammies.

North Carolina Visit (LONG post with lots of pictures)

Since Eric was gone for Christmas I decided I was going to go home. And since I was spending so much money to go home I was going to go home for a long time. I ended up being there for 3 weeks. It was so much fun to be there with family. All my siblings were there (something that hadn't happened for a couple of years) and my grandpa came out for Christmas. We all have a blast when we get together; I wish it could happen more often. Here are some pictures from the 3 weeks we were there.

We put the kids to work

We played some family kickball

We shot off rockets

We hung out with cousins

We (or maybe just I) fell in love with this little guy!!

We loved being able to spend time with these 2 people - love you Mom & Grandpa!

Two of our Favorite Books

Something that I am going to start doing (sorry Liz I am stealing your idea) is posting books that we really like to read. These are two of our favorite books are in this household. We read these books at least once a week. They are quite funny. If you have a chance pick them up at your local library!

My favorite quote in this book
"My older sister thinks she's so pretty. I told her that no matter how much time she spends looking in the mirror, her face will always look just like her rear end."

Our other favorite is
My favorite quote in this book
"We learned that vacuums eat spiderwebs and are very very dangerous. If we hear a vacuum, we should Stop, Drop, and Run. We had a vacuum drill today. I stopped what I was doing. Forgot where I was going. And ran screaming from the room."

I love to find funny entertaining books that the whole family will enjoy.
