Here at Ft. Benning they always do their Independence Day Celebration the weekend before the 4th so families can still go out of town or do stuff. So since we have gotten here, I always feel like we celebrate for a while. It was fun this year but also sad because big Eric wasn't here. Me and my friend Denise took the kids up to post. The kids had alot of fun on all the inflatables, and then after what seemed like forever the fireworks finally started (the Commodores did a concert before the fireworks and they wouldn't shut-up). I have always been impressed with the show that they put on here and once again I wasn't disappointed. This year little Eric actually watched and enjoyed the fireworks so that made it even better.
On the 4th we went to a cookout at some friend's house from church. It was alot of fun to just hang out and chat. We had a kiddie pool set up, a slip-n-slide, and a trampoline to wear the kids out. After it got dark we pulled out the fireworks (don't worry they are legal in Alabama) and put on our own show. There were alot of people out in the neighborhood shooting them off so we enjoyed it quite a bit. I even got little Eric to hold a sparkler and that was an amazement. He then didn't want to stop playing with them. All in all it was a successfull 4th of July.
The holiday just made me think about how proud I am of my husband and the sacrifices he has made to serve our country. It is so hard being apart from each other and there are some days when it seems like the time isn't passing at all and he is never going to get home. I'm proud to be able to say that my husband is in the army and serving so we can enjoy the freedoms that we have. I'm so proud of you Eric and I love you so much!
I just had to post this picture. This is how Eric feels about going back to Afghanistan. (He didn't mean to look that mean; he just happened to look up right as the picture was being taken. )
